Two De La Salle Zobel swimmers, Sacho Ilustre and Nikki Pamintuan, won Most Valuable Players for high school in the Boys’ and Girls’ Divisions respectively in the 78th UAAP Swimming Competition, held last October 22-25, 2015 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila. Both brand ambassadors of Aqua Sphere Philippines, Ilustre and Pamintuan sporting the latest gray and black MP Xpresso racing suits and goggles, scooped up gold in all their swim events.

Flashing glory gold for the La Salle Team in the Girls’ Division was Nikki Pamintuan, who celebrated her sixteenth birthday last October 25 by accomplishing a rare UAAP feat: winning 7 golds in 7 events, and breaking 7 UAAP records in the 50m, 100m, 200m & 400m freestyle, and 50m, 100m & 200m backstroke events.

On day one of the competition Sacho Ilustre bagged a gold in the 800-meter freestyle. According to DLSZ Swim Team Manager Lawrence Sahagun, Ilustre only failed to break the record in said event because the young swimmer was sick that day. But by the next day until the end of the 4-day competition he was in back in top form to grab more gold and break all the records in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m freestyle, and the 100m & 200m butterfly.

Another promising Aqua Sphere ambassador, 13-year-old Samantha Borlain, a strong distance swimmer from De La Salle Zobel gave Imee Saavedra of UST a run for one’s money in the 800m and 400m freestyle events, winning the silver and bronze respectively.
